Target Your SEO for Holiday Shoppers – Christmas Titles
Tags: christmas seo, holiday seo
What do you need to do increase traffic for the holidays season? Change your title and description tags to target the Christmas and the other upcoming holidays.
Thanksgiving is almost there. Black Friday will go just after that. The holidays are coming up fast, but will your SEO strategy be ready for the holiday search behavior?
The way we search online during holidays is diffyerent than for the rest of the year. We add seasonal modifiers to the usual search terms, more exactly holiday-related modifiers, meaning words like Christmas or Holiday or Xmas or boxing day. Take a look at the spike associated with the Christmas modifier:
In about a couple of months (somewhere at the beginning of November or mid October) will be the perfect time to change your <title> (and eventually <description>) tag to include words like Christmas, preferably at the beginning of those tags.
Start with one category or product page and check their rankings regularly to see if there’s a drop in traffic, just to play safe. I will expect some rankings fluctuations, but as you get closer to the holiday climax, if you rank in top 5 for the terms your targeting, you will see an increase in traffic.
As you get closer to the Christmas Day, let’s say December 10, add the term “free shipping” to the title– of course, if you have such an offer. Considering that free shipping topped as the most attractive incentive for visitors to buy from etailers, I would highly recommend adding the terms.
Once a specific Holiday has gone, change the titles to target the next one, i.e boxing day gift for her sale.
Another idea is to have a different templates of your pages for pages, each one targeting a specific holiday from both SEO and conversion point of views.
