<br>, <p> and <pre> tags are used mostly to visually structure the text content of a web document. They have almost no know semantic value and can’t influence the value of a document by themselves. However, what’s inside – text content) of p and pre tags can influence the document’s theme and rankings.
<hr> seems to have some influence on what weight search engines put on headings in relationship with the horizontal rule. There’s a US … Continue Reading » br, hr, p and pre Tags and SEO – Complete HTML Reference Guide for SEO

Search engine optimization should be a real concern to anyone involved in A/B/n or multivariate testing. Why? Because when you test something, you alter the information architecture on the tested page, and this could affect your previous SEO efforts.
If you don’t set up and configure your tests correctly – and I don’t mean how you set up your testing platform, but the technicalities of how you implement the test on your web server – you can encounter two major problems:
1. Duplicate content issues with … Continue Reading » Minimize the Impact of A/B Testing on SEO

I’ve noticed an interesting thing: Google is advertising for the keyword “adwords resellers” but the landing page returns a 404 – Not Found error:
 Google advertises on "adwords reseller"
... and the destination page returns a "Not Found" error
Indeed, even Google is prone to … Continue Reading » Even Google Does AdWords Mistakes

I see a rising trend for computer generated heatmaps of websites, used for landing page optimization and conversion rate optimization. This post is an updated version of an older post regarding eyetracking.
If you’re using services like feng-gui or attention wizard to generate heat maps for your website, you should be aware of the following:

Here’s a good sample of a poor concept of a registration page (I was not expecting the guys SEL to do such mistakes):
CRO mistakes on Search Engine Land registrationpPage
I will point only the major problems:
1. primary action (register button) is below the fold
2. the registration button doesn’t look like a button at all
3. … Continue Reading » Who Else Does the Same Mistakes as Search Engine Land?

Don't Do Like Them, Internet Marketing
Tags: bogus pharma, government design

There’s nothing worse than a government website using free stock photos for its website. Why? In the case of the website below, the”pharmacist” in the picture is to be found on quite a few bogus pharmacies online.
Does the British Columbian government want to be associated with rogue pharmacies or does it want to support such businesses by displaying the same picture as them? Definitely no, but that’s how it appears.
If I were to see this website … Continue Reading » When Government Website Design Goes Wrong

Tags: blockquote, cite, q, SEO, tag

<blockquote> <cite> and <q> tags have to do with citations within your web pages. They are used by those webmasters and SEO who want to play fair with search engines (indicating where they borrowed content from) and with the authors from which the content was borrowed (passing link juice).
Well, we all know that things are not going like these nowadays, content scrappers and site cloners are spreading like wildfire, RSS syndication, blog farming and splogs are shitty tactics for … Continue Reading » blockquote, cite and q Tag and SEO – Complete HTML Reference Guide for SEO
