BDO Tag and SEO – Complete HTML Reference Guide for SEO
In my attempt to create a complete (except for deprecated tags) HTML reference guide for SEO purposes, I sometimes encounter html markup that have minimal or no influence at all in terms of SEO. <bdo> tag is one of them. The bidirectional override directive will not help the current English optimizers (and probably neither those ones who are writing from right to left, i.e. Hebrew), but it’s good to be aware of its existence.
This tag may come handy if you want to display translated text from rtl (right-to-left) or ltr(left-to-right).
Definition and Usage
The <bdo> tag allows you to specify the text direction and override the bidirectional algorithm.
<bdo dir=”rtl”>Here is some Hebrew text!</bdo>
Text direction can be set in the CSS with the dir attribute. For more information about the usage, you can visit the w3schools website.
